I’m not able to have children and seeing others around me have babies is really taking a toll on my mental health. Reading is always an escape for me so I need a new book or series to help raise my spirits. Suggest me something happy or that made you laugh. I love all genres!

I am finding “The #1 Ladies Detective Agency” series to be just charming and delightful, very escapist, and although it has its darker or edgier moments, it is overall very uplifting. Very atmospheric, too, really takes you to a different environment. The main character is really beautifully drawn, very original, very complex, interesting, and inspiring in her own very particular way.

I also enjoy reading Agatha Christie books when I’m feeling down or agitated. Again, they’re just charming and really take you to another place. I like all the Poirot and Miss Marple books.

The Thursday Murder Club series is also very enjoyable, witty and funny.

All Creatures Great and Small is also another reliable mood-lifter, all the books in the series are just delightful.

Edit: I also just want to send you some hugs and warm good wishes. Hoping you find peace and happiness soon, I know you will.

      Big Trouble by Dave Barry

In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

Corfu trilogy – more smile than laugh-out-loud

    3. Having babies isn’t everyone’s bag, so there’s really no use in feeling blue about that.

I find when I’m down for what seemed like an extended period, I read sad, emotional stories, listened to sad, emotional music, watched sad, emotional movies. In my opinion, catharsis is a tool that lifts one out of any funk.

My go to book is, Love Story, Erich Segal. Or the movies, Kolya, and, The Elephant Man. Or the beautiful, perfect comedy romance, Hannah and Her Sisters.

Have you read Discworld? They don’t have to be read in order (there’s lots of reddit posts about which discworld books to read first). My favorite is The Wee Free Men, which would be a solid book to start with, despite it being like… the 30th book in the series or something.
