    1. *Candide* by Voltaire. It ticks all of the boxes: fairly short, frequently hilarious, and considered a classic by snobs.

    2. the selfish gene and ishmael. both books are great and are about life on this planet.

1984 is the best book about dystopic sci-fi.

Rich dad poor dad, if for nothing else than to realize we are taught nothing about how to make your money work for you.

[**The Golden Compass** by Phillip Pullman](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/119322)

i first read this in my mid-30s and it absolutely blew me away. this book is absolutely fucking incredible. i wish everyone would read this just once! there are armored bears. and witches. and kidnapped friends. and parallel universes. it has everything!

im trying to get this book in every possible edition because i love it that much.

this is book #1 in the **His Dark Materials** trilogy

    5. *Number the Stars* by Lois Lowry is an incredible book about Denmark’s mindblowing collective effort to protect its Jewish population in WW2. It’s serious and poignant without being super upsetting, and it absolutely deserved the Newbery it won. There are other books that I think everyone should read; but if I could pick only one, this would be it.

*The Outsiders* by S. E. Hinton is original and heartbreaking, and it offers insight into the lives of people in tough situations.

*From Anna* by Jean Little might be the most heartwarming book ever written. It’s just lovely.

Enjoy whatever you pick up next! 🙂

    6. Sapiens is a great all round introduction into the path of human development and how we got to where we are in a really accessible manner 🤌

(Shantaram is still the best book I’ve ever read)
