Hello, I’m trying to find an illustrated book on sailing or the Age of Sail for my dad. He doesn’t do much cover to cover reading but seems to enjoy books surveying a subject where one can jump around and read a chapter here or there. He has been a sailor since childhood and has designed and built small boats so a beginners book covering the basics of sailing wouldn’t be great. However, I was thinking a book covering some aspect of the Age of Sail (maybe design or the evolution of a type of ship) would be interesting. He also enjoys illustrations and diagrams in books. I have found some expensive out of print and some current books like An Illustrated History of the Royal Navy by John Winton but am having trouble finding previews to get a feel for the content. Unfortunately there aren’t any good bookstores near me so I do most of my book shopping online. I’d prefer to keep it around $50 don’t mind going higher for a great book.
TLDR: I’m looking for an illustrated book on sailing or some aspect of the Age of Sail for my dad who is an experienced sailor.
