What I mean by that is, a love interest who isn’t the brooding, scowling, sarcastic dark kind of person. Enemies to lovers has its place at times for me, but I’m a little fed up of all the love interests in books always being the same brand of person.
I’m looking for more Peeta Mellark energy; the softer, kinder, more gentle love interest. I’ve always been more Peeta than Gale for these reasons; his gentle nature doesn’t make him weak, he is still a strong person who can fight his own battles, but his strength comes in part from the way he truly cares for other people.
I think the asshole with a deep, deep soft side love interest has become rampant lately with tik tok on the rise. It’s always existed, sure (Mr Darcy and Mr Rochester, I am looking at you) but personally right now I’d love to see a fictional relationship form where the two genuinely felt like friends and formed a genuinely loving relationship. But I can’t think of many books where that happens outside of specifically romance books (which aren’t really my personal cup of tea).
I don’t know; is this bothering anyone else? It goes hand in hand with me being bored of the same sarcastic, ruthless-yet-cool powerful protagonist; people don’t have to have to have that personality to be strong!
