My 11yo cousin loves well-researched historical fiction, and also loves anything with elements of suspense and mystery. I would love to get her something for Christmas that includes both if possible (although would definitely take recs that are non-suspenseful historical fiction or non-historical suspense/mystery).

It is hard to find new copies of her work, but Gillian Bradshaw has a MA in Classics and wrote several novels set in the ancient and late antique world. The sex is minimal and the violence not especially graphic. I think it would be great for an 11yo who likes history.
