On a whim, I picked up Out There by Kate Folk and became instantly obsessed with these kinds of unsettling, eerie short stories.

I’ve also read (and loved!) the following:
    – Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century by Kim Fu
    – The Dangers of Smoking in Bed by Mariana Enriquez
    – Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado

Words to describe the target vibes: surreal, eerie, dark, imaginative, strange, sci fi, body horror, creepy, uncomfortable.

Short stories are ideal, but any novel recommendations are also totally welcome. Would love any recommendations you have!

EDIT: These are incredible! Thank you all so much. In my head, this was some super specific request, so I’m super excited to see there’s so much out there! My library holds shelf won’t know what hit ‘em.

Get in Trouble by Kelly Link. A great collection of short stories, some mystical and some more sinister.

    4. Not sure if Bunny by Mona Awad is surreal enough for you? But that’s the only title I can think of, also it’s not a short story but maybe still something you might enjoy 🙂
