Suggest me a book where the “protagonist(s)” have to commit “necessary evil” for the “greater good”. Can be fiction or non fiction(cause I’m sure it’s happened in history)
Not a book but a manga and whether it’s for the greater good is debatable, which is what makes it so interesting, as different characters have different perspectives on the matter. I’m talking about *Death Note.* It’s very popular in the manga/anime world but in case you haven’t heard of it, it’s about a bored genius in high-school who discovers a notebook dropped from the supernatural realm of shinigimi, or death gods, that allows its owner to kill anyone if you write their name and manner/time of death in it. At first he uses it to rid the world of violent and harmful criminals, but then.. well, you should see for yourself.

Not sure about the “greater good” part but, one of my favorite books where the characters commit nessary evil is All Of Us Villains.

The Imperial Radch trilogy by Anne Leckie
Up Against It by MJ Locke
Astarkraven on
Use of Weapons, Iain M Banks. Very flawed main character employed as a sort of mercenary for a hyper advanced futuristic civilization run by superintelligent AIs. MC does many a necessary (and unnecessary?) evil deed for a civilization that is working toward a greater good (or is it?). Moral and philosophical questions and musings about human nature abound, as does *hilariously* dry British humor. The ending is rather infamous. Give it a whirl!

Graphic Novel\Comic book, but Watchmen sure feels like it fits the bill here.
