Hi Reddit, I have a family member who is in the hospital and likely close to the end. He’s a tough person and worked in construction so he would probably like an adventure story that’s pretty easy to follow and not too stressful. I thought maybe Shogun or The Count of Monte Cristo but wondered if they might be too hard to follow? I appreciate any help in advance!

_Count of Monte Cristo_ might be good. _Shogun_ is good, but it can be a bit of a grind.
I might also recommend _Captain Blood_ by Rafael Sabatini. It’s an old fashioned swashbuckler, which was also made into an excellent movie with Errol Flynn (it’s the movie that made him a star).
