…or early 2000s. That would make me very happy. Like a coffee shop alternative version from the 90s/00 era, if that makes sense.
I crave for stories that combine these things somehow. It can be a book actually written during that time, or something newer – and urban doesn’t have to be a particular country or city, just city life.

Simpson Grears, *The Foot of the Walk Murders* – middle class Edinburgh. I’ve only skimmed it but I know the author and he says he’s consciously working in the Agatha Christie manner.
I’m only just over halfway through, but I am really impressed by the quality of writing in {{Night Film by Marisha Pessl}}. It has a little more weight and eeriness than I would give Christie, but is so far quite good. Set in New York and upstate… if you are looking for more “twee” then this might not be it.
The [Shay O’Hanlon](https://www.goodreads.com/series/60446-a-shay-o-hanlon-caper) series is 2010’s, but starts off with a literal coffee shop owner.
