    I’m looking for a book (or graphic novel, short story, etc) where there was a sudden or gradual event that resulted in a large difference in population of women vs men (prefer more men than women on the planet, but I would also take suggestions for books about more women than men on the planet).

    The “event” can be a part of the novel, but it also could have occured before the novel begins.

    For example, maybe some virus wipes out the majority of one sex. Or one sex suddenly stopped being born. Or something else suddenly happens to create the difference in numbers.

    I am open to all genres and content. I’m not concerned with the book being too graphic or gruesome.

    Also I am looking for a book about humans and the human condition, not aliens.

    A tall order I know, so thanks!

      The Exiles books by Melanie Rawn start a number of generations past a mass infertility event (they make it sound nuclear or chemical but don’t confirm) and, while birthrates have recovered somewhat, society is divided into classes based on how many birth defects per hundred occurred in a particular generation (I think a couple of centuries before the story takes place but idk for sure). The impacts of the event and splitting society into various “tiers” drive the plot of the book. There is really detailed world building. Also, amazing books and I love them.

    2. The Book of the Unnamed Midwife by Meg Elison

      A virus wipes out most of the women and children in the world, and kills women when they go into labor. The world falls apart & the narrative follows one woman as she searches for safety.

      it’s brilliant.

      Pretty much all of these are sci fi with more women than men. I unfortunately have not consumed much fiction where more men than women was a feature of the setting.

      * [The Screwfly Solution](https://pseudopod.org/2014/08/22/pseudopod-400-the-screwfly-solution/) by James Tiptree Jr./Alice B. Sheldon. Short story available free at the link.

      * Glory Season by David Brin

      * Escaping Exodus by Nicky Drayden (young adult)

      * The Stars Are Legion (more extreme disparity, to say more would spoil it), or The Bel Dame Apocrypha series (less extreme disparity) by Kameron Hurley

      * Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin

    4. There’s two manga series that come to mind. Both of them are on the more NSFW side of the scale. There’s Parallel Paradise, and World’s End Harem. I haven’t read the second one, so I make no claims for it’s quality. But Parallel Paradise is interesting, because while I started reading it for horny reasons I gradually got more invested in the story.
