I have always loved those documentaries where journalists venture into extremely complicated areas or situations to shine a light on what’s going on (war zones, red zones, criminal organizations, places under corrupt/highly restrictive governments, etc). I would love to read some books about this, either fiction or non-fiction! Please suggest.

    1. Seconding All the President’s Men. Also Artyom Borovik’s the Hidden War. HE was a journalist embedded in the Soviet army during their invasion of Afghanistan. It’s almost poetic in its descriptions. Very good read.

Patrick Radden Keefe is an investigative journalist who has written a few amazing full length books – and you can definitely tell they’re written by a talented journalist, not just some standard nonfiction research. In Extremis by Lindsey Hildum is a good biography about a war correspondent who was killed in Syria in 2012.
