Everynight I go out for a long walk for about 2 hours. I have been listening to the Leviathon series by Scott Westerfeld. But I finished all 3 and now need a new book.
I hate to admit it but my comprehension isn’t the best. I think that’s why I loved the Leviathon series so much. It’s a YA series that was very easy for me to understand and follow. I am hoping to find something similar in a Scifi/Fantasy story.
I was trying to listen to a book called The Peshawar Lancers but it was way above my comprehension level and I kept getting lost.

So TLDR a sci-fi / fantasy book thats easy to listen to and understand. Likely a YA book. (Ideally similar to the Leviathon, but steampunk/diesel punk, and alternate history would be awesome)

    1. My comprehension also isn’t as good with audio compared to text. Here’s my recommendations:

      * [The Golden Compass](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/119322.The_Golden_Compass), the first thing that comes to mind for young adult, steampunk/diesel punk and alternate history.

      * Star Surgeon by Alan E. Nourse. This book is in the public domain so you can find free audiobooks floating around the internet. The author has a few other books and stories in the public domain but I haven’t read any of them.

      * [Mortal Engines](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/287861.Mortal_Engines), a young adult steampunk series.

      * A Country of Ghosts by Margaret Killjoy. I had a paper copy, but hopefully the writing isn’t too difficult! This is kind of alternate history, but the author tried hard to make it feel like places that don’t really exist and have elements from all over the world.

      * A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher. I listened to this audiobook and thought it was great. However, it’s fantasy and definitely not sci fi.

      * The [Virga series](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/77887.Sun_of_Suns). I read the first book through text and listened to the rest as audiobooks. Sci fi set in an incredibly unique environment, a bubble of space where advanced technology won’t work so it has some vaguely steampunk aspects.

      * We Are Satellites by Sarah Pinsker. I had a paper copy, but it has a fairly easy writing style.

Project Hail Mary is really fun and easy to listen to. I zoned out a couple of times during the science-y bits but that didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story.

    3. The Expeditionary Force series by Craig Allenson
The first book is called Columbus Day. It’s sci-fi and about the Earth being invaded. But this invasion is perpetrated by large hamster-like creatures. It’s funny and engaging and easy to listen to. Please give it 10 chapters before you decide to stop listening to it. In the 10th chapter a major character is introduced who changes the direction of the whole book.
