“The Face of Fear” is another of Dean Koontz’s thrillers. The last one I read was a thriller more in the science fiction vein, this one is a classic crime thriller with a bit of a twist.

Graham Harris, a former mountain climber who nearly died in an accident on Mount Everest that resulted in a bad leg, and a fear of heights, is in a precarious position along with a woman he’s with.

He was part of an investigation, courtesy of the power of clairvoyance that was also the end result of the accident, involving a brutal serial killer dubbed the Butcher. And now that same killer has come after him, killing the guards of the building the Harris and the woman are in, and then disabled the elevators and blocked the stairways, leaving them both with only one chance of escape.

This only escape route will find the duo staring down 600 feet of empty space that would stare right back at them. And in this time of desperation Harris must face his fear.

This is a pretty decent crime thriller from Koontz, and of course I watch a lot of crime dramas so this is obviously my bag. Many people can agree that a serial are much more frightening than ghosts or monsters. The serial killer is very much real. And they can look as normal as much as any person. But of course there is that one supernatural element which is Graham Harris’s clairvoyance, but still a very good crime thriller.

Side note: while checking Koontz’s Wikipedia page, I was completely floored by how many books he’s published over the years!
