I have lost touch a bit with modern literature. I’ve read a few of highly regarded books from the last 10 years like Lincoln in the Bardo and Shuggie Bain. I would love some more recommendations of recently released books you think will stand the test of time. I don’t have a favourite genre really – but preferably not anything aimed at teenagers. Thanks!

Wolf Hall Trilogy by Hilary Mantel
I think a gentleman in Moscow will be revered for many years to come
I think the Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen will be well remembered. Especially if the tv show adaptation is popular. The book is really good and the ending absolutely blew me away it’s just let down by a mediocre section (the movie advisor part is meh at best) but is otherwise a near perfect book
Antkind by Charlie Kauffman
The Gold Finch by Donna Tartt
I think Brit Bennett’s The Vanishing Half deserved its awards, it’s one of the most compassionate and compelling books about race in America that I’ve read.
Tanya Tagaq’s Split Tooth deserves an even wider audience.
John Crowley’s Flint & Mirror: A Novel of History and Magic just gutted me, I thought it was one of the best historical books I’ve read but the inclusion of a fantasy element kept it from getting the notice it deserved, I think. His best work since Big, Little.
