I’m sort of looking for a book just set in another world, with different types of people/aliens I guess, but not necessarily futuristic
Think James Cameron’s Avatar but without the humans/advanced tech, or Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis
I don’t really like book that have a king/queen/princess/prince main character either. Just an average person who faces real challenges.
I’m not even sure if sci-fi/fantasy is even the right category, sorry. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks in advance!

How about The Beginning Place by Ursula K Le Guin? It’s a bit older, but is about two real people who cross over into a kind of fantasy world. I think there is a royal family there, but they are very minor characters with little to no dialogue.
China Mieville has a number of books set in the future or in weird places that don’t really exist on Earth.
*Embassytown* is about some humans trying to interact with aliens on their home planet that have very unique language structure that makes communication difficult. *The City in the City* is about a police officer investigating an incident in a city that might resemble something on Earth at the beginning of the novel, but is basically a character all by itself by the end.
Or you could try *The Time Quintet* by Madeleine L’engal. Five books, the first of which is *A Wrinkle in Time.* There is a little bit of magic in that the books usually focus on the main character either travelling through space or time with a really vague magical happenstance. But once they get to the location, it’s just the main character working without magic to resolve a problem.
