I mostly read science or case study based books and coming of age memoirs. I found recently that I’ve become burnt out by those genres often leading me to not enjoy reading as much as I used to.

Suggest me a fictional book with an absolute gripping story. Particularly anything involving horror, murder mystery or sci-fi. I also love a really good prose. (Junot Diaz is one of my favorite prose writers even though some of his books are more memoir esque style)

I don’t want anything too sci-fi heavy (Project Hail Mary was perfect for me). I’ve never read horror fiction but something like that or a murder mystery sounds intriguing for a first time reader.

Basically just recommend me a really popular book for that genre. I’ve likely never heard of it because I only read specific books I’ve researched prior and never take time to browse and it’s overwhelming. It doesn’t even have to be sci-fi/murder/horror but it HAS to be fiction

***The Water Knife*** **(2015) by Paolo Bacigalupi** – A near-future thriller set in the American Southwest, exploring the battle for water rights. There is a gritty realism here in its futurism like there is in *The Road*. Murder mystery with mercenaries, kidnapping, torture, drone strikes, drugs, corporate corruption, totes action.
