I think I have read my fair share of romantically depressing and sentimental optimistic books. I think the closest I ever came to reading book that truly exemplified pure, raw rage that can be contained in printed word was when I got into Hubert Selby Jr. I’d like some recommendations. Mostly looking for fiction, although I suppose one non-fiction would be appropriate here.

What is the angriest book you ever read?

Native Son by Richard Wright. It’s a very raw look at the systematic abuse and repression experienced by the black american population during the time of Jim Crow Laws and the attempt by African Americans to assimilate into a culture that sees them as subhuman. The main character, Bigger Thomas lives in absolute poverty and his rage against this system travels through the entire novel.

    2. Notes from Underground / The Underground man.

The first paragraph alone is drenched in spite and anger.. it devolves into pettiness but the anger remains.
