The last few fiction books I’ve read have all struck me in a similar way and now I’m left wanting more! They were *Piranesi,* *This is How You Lose the Time War,* and *The Haunting of Hill House.* Though there are some strong tonal differences, I appreciated how all three got me invested in their unique settings and believable characters, and told engaging, often subversive stories in fewer than 300 pages without being needlessly grim (and, incidentally, while touching on queer themes). So if y’all know of books in a similar vein (queerness optional) I’d appreciate hearing about them!

This is 333 pages, but you might enjoy Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel!
