I have only read about 10 books this year, and the ones I was hoping would blow me away I was rather underwhelmed- These included Station Eleven and Piranesi. My preference is for literary fiction, but I do try to branch out and try new authors and genres. I have developed quite a “Library” with about 250 titles and have probably read a little more than half. My favorite books of all time are the Russian Classics as well as Victorian (including Dickens). I am considering going back to something I have not read in like 10 years like “Demons,” or “Huckleberry Finn.”
This is my short list…
East of Eden- Steinbeck
The Martian Chronicles- Bradbury
Hard Times- Dickens
Notes from a Dead House- Dostoevsky
Jane Eyre- Bronte
The Secret History- Donna Tart
Demons- Dostoevsky (a re-read)
Hyperion- Dan Simmons

I am drawn to Steinbeck and Bronte because I have not read these authors before and I hear nothing but praise. I also want to read The Count of Monte Cristo, but this is longer than I want, and East of Eden is bordering on longer than I want right now. Can someone recommend me a book either on my list, or one that they have read and think would be a good fit considering my tastes. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!

For Russian classics- Anna Karenina. I’ve read it three times across 2 decades and had a completely different experience each time.
Victorian- Wuthering Heights, Far from the madding crowd
Lit fic with a very traditional British feel- Remains of the day
Jane Eyre is fabulous, but I personally think that Wuthering Heights is the best of the Brontë sisters novels.
Omg read Easy of Eden!! My husband and I both loved it at different times in our lives. I found it to be a real page turner, so I wouldn’t let the length stop you.
