    Hello everyone!

I recently started doing the “read one book from each country on the globe” challenge, in an attempt to diversify the books that I read, as I tend to gravitate towards American/British titles or French titles. I started very coincidentally with a book from Bosnia and Herzegovina, so I continued with a book from Croatia. I’m considering finishing the ex-Yugoslavia countries first and moving on from there. Here I need your help: do you have any recommendations for books by Slovenian, Montenegrin, Serbian, Macedonian and maybe Kosovo writers?

In general, I’m trying to read contemporary authors, with the subject having something to do, even just tangentially, with their country and/or culture (by this I mean I’m trying to avoid very generic plots that could take place anywhere on the globe). Of course, I’m open to more classical authors, depending on the subject and “heaviness” of the work in question. I really want to find some hidden gems, up-and-coming authors, that bring a fresh perspective on their cultures and history.

In case you also need some inspo (yay, a trade), I read Lana Bastašić’s *Catch the Rabbit* for Bosnia and Herzegovina (a solid 5-star read for me), and Dubravka Ugrešić’s *Ministry of Pain* for Croatia (which I also recommend).

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for your potential suggestions! 🙂
