Fairy tales that aren’t? I’ve been listening to mercedes lackey (500 kingdoms).

I’m almost done with Mercedes Lackeys 500 kingdom series. Is there anything else that is like them? I love how the godmothers use the tradition for them and against itself. A little mystery, romance, fantasy, all rolled into one. Any suggestions?
