Recently I’ve only read classics or books that have more of a philosophical mood. I.e. Frankenstein, crime and punishment, another brooklyn, the picture of Dorian gray; where a lot of the “action” is happening inside long descriptions of nature, and the sky, and the human nature, or the city. Don’t get me wrong I like this themes every once in a while but reading it back to back got me into a reading slump. I want to go back to reading but with a book that’s action packed yk, a book where something actually happens and I don’t have to use my brain that much or feel empty afterwards. This book can be any genre and theme. Although I don’t really like high fantasy and I would prefer if it was not a 500+ page book haha. If you have something like that please let me know. Thank you so much!

    1. You sound like you need to explore the world of the Sensation Novel.

In the nineteenth century, many books were published serially, either in a magazine or newspaper or in parts you’d buy each month at a newsstand, each containing a couple of chapters.

To keep people reading, and make sure they bought the next part, writers relied on cliffhangers, surprises, wild plot twists. The best writers in the genre could work in that format to also create a compelling story that hangs together in a single volume.

My recommendation is to start with Wilkie Collins, either “No Name” or “The Woman in White.” [Here is a link](https://standardebooks.org/ebooks?query=Wilkie&sort=newest&view=grid&per-page=12) to free ePub editions to get you started.
