My 11 year old daughter told me the other day that she would like to try reading romance novels. I asked if she knew what they were and her description was “you know, like falling in love and stuff”. I told her most romance novels are geared towards adults and wouldn’t have age appropriate content (ie descriptive sexual encounters and such), and then she made a face when I mentioned they’d probably have at least lot of kissing. Lol

So my question to you, my fine bibliophile friends:

Are there any age appropriate “romance” novels out there for tweens? Perhaps like a Disney movie-type romance that’s more modern and not a fairy tale?

    Thanks!

The princess diaries is the first thing that comes to mind but it’s been a minute since I’ve read them.

There are actually tons of upper middle grade/tween “romance” books that would be age appropriate!

If there’s any kissing, it’s usually just once with minimal description (like “Then, she kissed me.” is the full extent of it).

At that age I loved “Flipped” by Wendelin Van Draanen.

    3. Terry Pratchett does some very good low-key romance. Nothing explicit, and the romance is often not the main theme, but I really like his take on it, and it is tasteful and cute.
