I just read The Running Man as the first book I’ve read in years. I would love to read something with action and suspense while also picking up/ learning something about survival.
    Books I’ve read (mostly sci-fi)
    Ready Player one and two
    War games
    Hatchet
    The Martian
    Armada
    War Cross

    1. *The Passage* is an excellent horror series that deals with life before and after a world altering cataclysm. Has some grounded characters and some interesting relationships. Jumps from pre-event to post-event and connects some cool dots by doing this.

*Red Rising* is a bit like the Hunger Games if written from a more “Action figure” viewpoint. First book starts out fairly cookie cutter action/adventure/dystopia but the series becomes a much more interesting read as you go along.

*Fantasticland* is a gritty horror where amusement park employees are trapped in a Lord Of The Flies-esque battle for their lives after a hurricane traps them inside. Told in a series of interviews, the narration is the star here. It takes some major suspense of disbelief to get through, but it’s a thrilling read.

Also try searching for “prepper fiction ” there are several authors who are survival experts. Their works have a lot of tips. Mark Goodwin is one.
