As the title suggests, I want to read some really well-plotted, scary novels about ghosts and haunted houses. I’ve read Shirley Jackson, of course, The Shining, and that’s the sort of thing I’m seeking. I have read a lot of the classics (Poe, James), but I want some modern and recent reads. (It doesn’t need to be a house. It could be people who are haunted.)

Most important is that it’s well-written and keeps me intrigued / leaves me with spooky feelings.

    And go! TIA!

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. It’s so well-written and the feeling of it remains afterwards. It’s not jump-scary, but very unsettling.
