Hi again! I was at the bookstore today and as much as I loved Yours Truly by Abby Jimenz (seriously. Finished it in a DAY) I found that the descriptions on the backs of all the books (and started a Tessa Bailey book & was not impressed by the obvious and imo annoying quirky female lead) to be too gimmicky Hallmark movie fall in love and there’s an obvious conflict and it gets resolved.
This is not to say that I don’t want romance or a resolution; I want both. Badly. BUT I guess what I’m saying that’s partially what I want the book to be about but not the center of attention if that makes sense.
I’m not into sci-fi or fantasy (although legends and lattes has been calling my name!) but I digress. I also don’t mind a little bit of spice (I’m in my mid 20s) but not a l l spice (my family can see my GoodReads and that is not a conversation I want to have with my brother who also loves reading).
For the record, like I said, I loved Yours Truly. I’m big into Parks & Rec (specifically Ben and Leslie’s relationship) and just something that is easy to read. Not Hallmark movie easy, but where I don’t have to use my brain on full power. Something interesting but chill.
I hope this makes sense L O L I wanted to be specific to make suggestions easier

I’ve heard Emily Henry is a good pick for Romance adjacent. Beach Read or People we meet on Vacation might be a good place to start.
ok my recommendations are the charm offensive by alison cochrun, the roommate by rosie danan, and we could be so good by cat sebastian.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes! It has a main romance in it but is mostly about the MC growing as a person — dealing with the death of her abusive husband, her relationships with her family, etc.
Runaway Joe by David Hight.
Try Jennifer Crusie. Bet Me, Agnes and the Hit Man, and Faking It are my favorites. Lots of sharp wit, movie references, and interesting sub plots
