Hi! I’ve read a lot of specific nonfiction but I’m looking for more (feminist focus is a plus). Some of my favs: Men Who Hate Women, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Breaking Free. I like learning about social media, cults, beauty pageants, funeral homes, urban planning, really anything

I’ve got some similar interests! Here are a couple recs for specific and fascinating topics. If the subject catches your eye, they’re all super well-written:
Abducted: How People Come to Believe They Were Kidnapped by Aliens by Susan A. Clancy
Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea
by Barbara Demick
There’s a Mystery There: The Primal Vision of
Maurice Sendak by Jonathan Cott
Unfollow: A Journey from Hatred to Hope, Leaving the Westboro Baptist Church by Megan Phelps-Roper
[Boom Town](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/228335/boom-town-by-sam-anderson/) by Sam Anderson. Without question.
I feel like I recommend this too often, but Derren Brown’s *Tricks of the Mind* fits what you’re after. The book is a master class in mentalism, magic, how to spot other people’s bullshit, and brain-hacking.
It’s like a Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook against the pickup artist, social engineering, MLM, mysticism, etc crap, written by one of the best magicians/mentalists in the world. It also has a bunch of autobiographical pieces about his life, career, and training.
And since you said autobiographies and funeral homes… have you read [Fun Home](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26135825-fun-home)? That’s Alison Bechdel’s (of ‘Bechdel Test’ fame) graphic novel memoir about growing up in the funeral home her father ran. Also really good!
Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige-Hill
The author is the Bruce of Scientology boss, David Miscavige. She talks about her childhood inside Scientology, and the double edged sword of being related to its leader, and her awakening to the truth and eventual escape. I listened to it on audiobook, very good.
