I read Bleeding Edge by Thomas Pynchon last year. While I am not a fan of Pynchon, I loved the book. The book is set at a specific time, 2001 (and place, New York). I came of age in the late 90s/early 2000s and am therefore nostalgic for that time, and the reason I think I loved the book is because it captures the atmosphere of the time. The book is described as being about 9/11, but this is a misstatement. While 9/11 is a plot point, it happens two thirds into the book. Before that, the book delves into the period with the Internet becoming a thing (and by extension hacking), the dot-com bubble burst, dot-com parties, video games, Bernie Madoff, and pop cultures references from Beanie Babies to Britney Spears to Friends. That is to say, I am not looking for a book about 9/11. I am looking for a book that capture the atmosphere, feeling and memories (or possibly mis-memories) of the turn of the millennium. Thanks in advance.
