Just finished this book last night. This is the first book I read that’s actually related to my career (well yup, reading is escapism).

I’ve been in the industry for almost a decade but there are a lot that I’ve learned from this book. Even the factors behind the most recent chip shortage had become clear to me.

I believe this book predated the passing of the CHIPS Act, though the gap between this and the book is probably not longer than a year. So I’m thinking, would it be likely the author would put out an updated revision with a chapter on this, or perhaps a foreword? Chris Miller did an amazing job contextualizing all the different facets of the industry in one clean and fair narrative. I’d like to see his take on the CHIPS Act as its consequences unravel in the coming months and years.

    1. Great book. My guess is he would be fairly pessimistic about the attempt to move manufacturing stateside given how reliant the process is on technical know-how. Maybe it can handle some lower end chip manufacturing, but that the cutting edge of manufacturing will be done in Taiwan for the foreseeable future.
