I’m having trouble articulating what I’m looking for, but I like science fiction, I fuck with dystopia, I love a POC, female, or “non traditional” sci-fi protagonist. I loved the fiest three Dune books (Heretics and God Emperor were too wierd for me, but to each their own) and the Space Odyssey series, so its not a strict requirement.
I don’t know if I’m ready for the real heavy hitters like Isaac Asimov yet, but I’m trying to get there.
I like Neil Gaiman. I understand why people love the Lord of the Rings, but I do prefer writing that is a little more..efficient?
Thanks in advance!

Don’t be intimidated by the veneration toward Asimov. His writing is quite accessible, but hasn’t always aged well. I suspect you might find his stories something of a letdown after Butler. I haven’t found anyone who matches, let alone surpasses her.
ZOO CITY by Beukes, REMNANT POPULATION by Moon, the ANCILLARY JUSTICE books, have you tried GIDEON THE NINTH?, Reese Hogan’s stuff, BORNE by VanDermeer.
Read the Broken Earth Trilogy by NK Jemisin (1st book is The Fifth Season) and read anything by Ursula K Le Guin (I would start with Left Hand of Darkness)
