    1. A hundred years of solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is your classic magical realism/literary fiction, I personally loved it.

If you liked piranesi you might want to check out Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell also by Susanna Clarke, it’s the story of two magicians in England around the time of the napoleonic wars. It’s not quite as spell binding as piranesi but is mostly enjoyable and is a good fantasy/historical fiction blend that feels very grounded. However it’s not for everyone as it is quite long (800+ pages?) and it is very slow paced, lots of conversation and little details here and there. I enjoyed it still tho and some people really love it

    2. Opus-the-Penguin on

Try *The Anubis Gates* by Tim Powers. (He wrote the book that *Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides* was based on.) I’ve read it several times and am always sad that so few people have heard of it. It needs to be widely read and turned into a 13-episode streaming series.
