I know I could Google it but this sub always has the BEST recommendations! I’m fascinated with food culture and how food has such a larger impact on societies, politics and humanity as a whole.
– Pasta, Pane, Vino (Matt Goulding). This is a food writer who does some hands-on journalism (and reflects on his past experiences) to get to the bottom of food culture in Italy. He enrolls in *the* cooking school for Neapolitan pizza (and enters the debate about whether Neapolitan pizza is the only pizza worth eating), he spends time with a family that makes cheese, all sorts of stuff.
This was one of my absolute favorite reads in 2018 (I know that’s specific, but I have such fond memories of reading this book and loving it, so I know where I was and what was going on in my life at the time). I still think “Oh hell yeah, that book is awesome” when I look back.

Not a book, but there is that Great Courses course, Food: A Cultural Culinary History. Someone gifted it to me on Audible. There has to be a way around paying the incredibly $$ price!
Anyways, good luck in your searches and recommendations!
