My friend wants to get into reading. She said her vocabulary and comprehension isn’t the best so she wants something easy to understand. She loves studio ghibli and Tim Burton films. Right now she said she is looking for a comfort read that still has some form of story to it to keep her interested. Thank you in advance for the help!

Dick and Jane books possibly?
Howl’s Moving Castle from Studio Ghibli was inspired by the book by Diana Wynne Jones. She has written several excellent books. Neil Gaiman’s vibe is similar to some of Burton’s films. Both authors write at a level that a bright 12 year old could follow.
The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh has huge Spirited Away vibes.
