The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It is 14 books plus a prequel (the prequel was good, but not necessary).
Do NOT watch the Amazon series supposedly based on the books. They ruined it in almost the very first scene of that show. It is an absolutely horrible adaptation.
