Hello!! My sister (18) wants to get into reading however, she has always struggled with reading and has dyslexia. She finds it hard to start a book and can’t get into the book as she is too busy focusing on trying to read. Does anyone have any recommendations that would be easy for her to read? Is there anything I can buy that would help her when reading?

Kindle Paperwhite has OpenDyslexic font, it might help her.

      Some book suggestions for her:
1.The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
2.The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
3.Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
      4.Paper Towns by John Green
      5.The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
6.The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
7.The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
8.Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
9.A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
10.Percy Jackson & The Olympians series by Rick Riordan
11.The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

    2. Sometimes I have a suspicion I might have mild undiagnosed dyslexia. Letters/words get switched around or disappear altogether and so I’ll occasionally have to read a sentence multiple times before it actually makes any sense.

What helps me is reading out loud until I get into a ‘flow’; even if I’m just whispering or mouthing the words, it helps me bring myself into greater focus. If the historians are accurate, silent reading wasn’t ubiquitous until the medieval ages, before then it was the norm to read everything out loud. So maybe your sister could benefit from it.

    3. Romance is a pretty wide genre so it’s hard to make a specific book recommendation (does she like sports? Historical? Contemporary? Enemies to lovers? Fantasy romance?…) but as far as dyslexia someone else recommended the kindle paper white with the open dyslexia font it’s great but you don’t need the paper white to get it. If she puts the kindle app on her phone or iPad if she has one it will work there as well. Another option would be audiobooks. I’m huge into audiobooks as a person with ADHD because I can listen while doing other things but it is definitely an option for her as well!

    4. Someone else said audio — I recommend audiobooks for her to start with, so she can find a genre she knows she likes. My Murder by Katie Williams is great on audio
