Not about autism per se. Almonds by Sohn Won-Puyng

A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll. It’s a middle grade book about an 11yo (I think) autistic girl in Scotland. Check the reviews to see so many autistic adults wishing they’d had this book when they were kids. I know I do, but I’m glad my kids have it.

Asking questions/writing out how you’re feeling to the autism/aspergers subs on here might be helpful. A nonfiction book I’ve heard about is Unmasking Autism by Devon Price

Some people have said that getting a diagnosis allowed explanations for so many things to fall into place. Best of luck! You have not changed, you just have a lot of information and tools now that may be of use to you. Editing because I forgot the book recommendations. Sherlock Holmes is widely thought to be an autistic presence. (We are also told not to “diagnose’ people in books written before autism was officially described, the heck with that) Official modern book about a character with autism, *The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.* That said, Mr Darcy and Mr Collins in *Pride and Prejudice.* The term ‘coded as autistic’ is also used to describe the characteristics linked to autism and attributed to fictional characters.

The Rosie Project. Until I read this, I struggled to understand what my son may be feeling. I grew up with pretty inaccurate ideas and expectations of autism. This book made a huge difference. It’s fiction, and really really funny!

Both “The Heart Principle” by Helen Hoang and “With You Forever” by Chloe Liese are romance books that feature a main character who received an autism diagnosis later in life. They are both written by autistic authors. And while they are both part of a series, can be read as stand alones.

Devon Price’s Unmasking Autism is apparently very good

If you never thought you were autistic, keep living like you’re not. Is there a downside?

Strong Female Character by Fern Brady is a really good memoir about being diagnosed as an adult
