What are some popular classic books for a 18 yo that is getting into reading should read?
I have adhd so I’m not that good with comprehension, I’m talking about classic kind of “teenage novels” that are popular such as the hobbit, hunger games, maze runner etc (these are the three I have
There is a lot of books out there so I just thought I should start with the classics or like the popular fiction novels.
I have no idea what books I like as well 😅

The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton was published when the author was 18. It moves fast & it’s not that long. It’s older than the novels you listed, but I think it could be a fun & quick read for you
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green was super popular when I was in high school. It’s good!
Any John Marsden books, especially the Tomorrow When the War Began series.
Popular (not necessarily classic) :
Cinder
Vampire Academy
The Uglies
The Cruel Prince
Scythe
Legend
I’ll Give You the Sun
We Were Liars
Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
Gone by Michael Grant
The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I’m in my 30s and still love this book, even after teaching it every year for over a decade.
I don’t know if this is the right kind of recommendation tbh but I read The Catcher in the Rye as a teenager and utterly adored it.
When I was 18, approximately 100 years ago in the bygone decade of the 1980s, I was reading tons of Stephen King. *Salem’s Lot*, *The Stand*, *The Shining*, *Misery*, *It*, *Christine*, *The Dead Zone* to name a few.
Everyday by David Levithan was pretty good 🙂
READ “me before you” by Jojo Moyes PLEASE.
You could read the series “Gone”. It was fairly popular in my school. Wasn’t my cup of tea but it’s a decent read if you don’t mind some campiness. It’s kinda like if a post apocalypse novel mixed with the zone from STALKER (roadside picnic)
Out of My Mind is a fucking excellent book by Sharon Draper.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Another vote for Percy Jackson
The mortal instruments was huge but one of the plot devices are icky and polarizing.
Kite runner
Fourth wing is labeled as new adult but feels very YA just with cursing and open door sex. (New release just came out)
Eragon series (new release just came out)
One of the most insightful novels about the human psyche and the question of morality is ‘Crime and Punishment’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I recommend it for its deep psychological analysis and the moral dilemmas it presents through the story of Raskolnikov, a destitute and desperate former student.
Ender’s Game
The Giver
