I never – NEVER – read YA, and any romance is usually a subplot. But I have a lot of pent-up emotions right now and I would rather not dwell on certain losses in my life. Bonus points if there’s a death involved and/or angsty Jess Mariano-type male leads. Regret. Deep talks on the roof at 4 am vibes. Skins (that UK show) type of characters/setting.

      – The Problem With Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout (very angsty, childhood trauma, death involved)
      – Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Choi (dual POV, family issues, tender love)
      – Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren (two timelines so not entirely YA, death involved)
      – Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (fantasy, LGBTQ+, similarities to Harry Potter but with enemies to lovers)
