almost every time this sub appears on my homepage, it’s about some fake controversy about a banned book. no matter how vulgar the book, the same exact reddit-brained people show up to every thread to give the same warped opinions on how zero oversight should occur in any library. it adds nothing to the discussion of books. it’s the newest grift for authors who can’t find interested readers, and there’s clearly no consensus to be reached as the mods’ position on this is clear so obviously there won’t be any enforcement to be like, ‘get a life, you weirdos. leave these kids alone.’ what benefit is provided when half of the book sub is just grifter bait?

Why is there not a sticky thread for “Holden caufield is a whiney brat?”
almost every time this sub appears on my homepage, it’s about some hot take on catcher in the rye. no matter how often people say catcher in the rye is about a traumatized teenager coming to terms with existential questions surrounding morality, identity and connection, the same exact reddit-brained people show up to every thread to give the same warped opinions on how Holden Canfield is a whiney brat. it adds nothing to the discussion of books. it’s the newest grift for users who can’t read subtext, and there’s clearly no consensus to be reached as the mods’ position on this is clear so obviously there won’t be any enforcement to be like, ‘get a life, you weirdos. Holden Canfield is a whiney brat’ what benefit is provided when half of the book sub is just troll bait?
This sub is about books. That includes topics of banned books. Considering reddit is predominately North American, the banned book topic comes up a lot considering what’s currently happening in some parts of the US.
If you want to hold a different conversation on the book ban subject then you can start your own topic, instead of just moaning about other peoples contributions.
Books about bands? Usually, just crap to boost album sales. Who wants to read that?
