I really want a story based off/is a retelling of beauty & the beast but the romance is developed naturally (like a slow-burn) and/or the beast STAYS a beast and doesn’t turn into some disappointing white guy.
If I can’t have both, I would rather a story where the beast stays beastly, I can excuse fast romances lol. I thought I was going to get to this with the 2014 “la belle et la bete” movie because I saw the clip where they’re on the frozen lake but Nah, I was mislead!! :/
I think “A Soul to Keep” from the Duskwalker Brides by Opal Reyne is what I’m looking for, and it is in my list! But are there any other books outside of that series that (somewhat) align with what I’m wanting??
(Note: also, suggestions can be a bit trashy!! currently on book 3 of the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series, and am loving it, despite its flaws lmao)

Angela Carter puts a twist on this story in “The Tiger’s Bride,” which is part of The Bloody Chamber, her short story collection.
A Cosmology of Monsters
When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James is one of my favourite fairy tale retellings of this story.
Eloisa James is a Queen of historical romance and she’s a Shakespeare professor when she’s not writing historicals so her books are really funny and smart.
