Hello everyone, I am pursuing my Master’s in English: Language, Literatures, and Cultures. I am gearing up to write my thesis on the ‘Intersectionality between Identity and Class.’ Could you please recommend any contemporary novels that address both identity and class-based discrimination? Thank you!

If you’re open to reading cli-fi, then my first thought was Parable of the Sower (Octavia Butler).
Good luck with your grad work! Your thesis sounds both interesting and important.
“Remarkable Creatures” by Tracy Chevalier, novel based on women from different classes that made a huge impact on our understanding of pre-human life
“Did You Hear About Kitty Karr” by Crystal Smith is about black women “passing” as white women. It’s ALL about identity and class discrimination.
Wasn’t sure if you were looking for a specific geography, so I clarified countries!
The Making of Yolanda la Bruja by Lorraine Avila (USA) — though warning for the poor deaf rep!
Ace of Spades by Faridah Abike-Iyimide (USA)
Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende (Chile)
The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi (India)
Sunshine Nails by Mai Nguyen (Canada)
The Fifth Season by N.K Jemisin
