I’m currently reading Mick Herron’s Slow Horses series, they’re excellent— funny and cynical and well plotted.
Would also highly recommend Charles McCarry’s series. Not as heavy on guns and action as some, but extremely well written and interesting.

John Le Carré is a very famous author for spy novels, many of which have been made into movies (eg Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). His stories have more realistic spy work when compared to James Bond or other action spies.
{{The Spy Who Came in From the Cold}} is a great one to start with and is a quick read. Focuses on Cold War tensions in postwar Germany.
