Hello all, first time poster here and new sub, so let me know if this isn’t really right for this sub.

I just received a first edition copy of what is now my favorite book (The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White). It was just released a few weeks ago! It is hardcover, with a signed bookplate, and with spray-painted edges. I love it more than I can say.

I want to hopefully keep it and the jacket in good condition for my personal collection, for decades to come. But to be honest, I don’t have a great track record of keeping books in good condition. They tend to tear, stain, bend, etc… I really have no idea how I do it. I’ll just leave them on my desk, bed, or drop them in my bookbag when going places, but that’s it. I don’t eat while I read, though I do drink coffee and tea.

**I was wondering what tips this community has for taking long-term care of books**. All I really know is to not eat while reading, and that book covers are popular – though I don’t like the idea of the latter, since I love the jacket’s design and texture too much to hide it. I don’t currently have a bookshelf but am planning on getting one soon, which I know will be important for the storage aspect. Any other advice is much appreciated! This book means a lot to me and I want to give it the care I feel it deserves.
