Hello! I mostly grew up on literature coming out of the US and UK when I was growing up. A couple of years ago, I started making a conscious effort to start reading authors from different places and contexts. So! Suggest a book by an author from your country 🙂
I’m from India and I’d like to suggest Ghachar Ghochar by Vivek Shanbhag. It’s a short book that keeps you enthralled throughout!

Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery is my top Canadian book. It’s a classic for a reason, and Rilla, the final book in the series is the best.
Camilla Gibb, Margaret Atwood, Miriam Toewes, Trevor Cole, Will Ferguson, Douglas Coupland, and Margaret Lawrence are my favorite modern Canadian authors.
CG – Mouthing the Words and The Beauty of Humanity Movement (neither are very Canadian but both are excellent)
MA – Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments
MT – A Boy of Good Breeding (VERY Canadian) and The Summer of My Amazing Luck
TC – Practical Jean and The Fearsome Particles
WF – Hapiness
DC – All Families are Psychotic, J-Pod, and Eleanor Rigby
ML – Stone Angel and The Diviners
from Sweden here.
a man called ove by Frederick backman
let the right one in by John ajvide lindqvist
The hypnotist by Lars Kepler
Australia
Cloudstreet – Tim Winton
I’m also Canadian, but I’ve lived most of my life in the US. Canadian authors are a really big deal in Canada, but in the US, it’s common for people to just assume these authors are Americans.
I will recommend Karl Schroeder, an author who writes incredibly far future sci fi. It’s so far in the future, the settings are barely recognizable. He writes two distinct kinds of books, fast paced and action packed novels like [Sun of Suns](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/77887.Sun_of_Suns) or slower, stranger, more philosophical novels like [Lady of Mazes](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34009.Lady_of_Mazes).
My favourite Malaysian authors:
Hanna Alkaf (The Weight of Our Sky, The Girl and the Ghost, Hamra and the Jungle of Memory)
Tan Twan Eng (The Gift of Rain, The House of Doors, The Garden of Evening Mists)
Selina Siak Chin Yoke (The Woman Who Breathed Two Worlds)
