*A Curious Mind* : Brian Grazer with Charles Fishman

A non-fiction amalgam of brief bios of interesting people, focusing on their paths.

    2. *Dark Emu* by Bruce Pascoe is about how civilized and cultivated Australia was when the first colonizers arrived, but they didn’t see it as civilization because it looked so different from Europe. The author uses the logs and diaries of the first settlers, along with other surviving texts and artifacts to show how much destruction was wrought and how many great civilizations were destroyed in the name of manifest destiny. It’s also a fairly short read.

*Say Nothing* by Patrick Radden Keefe is a breakdown of the Troubles in Northern Ireland and where all the animosity came from (spoiler: poeple don’t forget that your grandparents tried to kill their grandparents). I’ve read a couple other books on the subject, but I felt this was the most complete explanation. It also feels really apropos now with the Israel-Hamas war and explains why Ireland in particular is so vocal in their support of Palestine.

      Wild Swans by Jung Chang.

Few books have had such an impact as Wild Swans: a popular bestseller which has sold more than 13 million copies and a critically acclaimed history of China; a tragic tale of nightmarish cruelty and an uplifting story of bravery and survival.

Through the story of three generations of women in her own family – the grandmother given to the warlord as a concubine, the Communist mother and the daughter herself – Jung Chang reveals the epic history of China’s twentieth century.

Breathtaking in its scope, unforgettable in its descriptions, this is a masterpiece which is extraordinary in every way.
