Hey All, do you have any book recs that are on the shorter side and are not too ‘moody’ or heavily portray societal issues/commentary?
Just want something escapist and light, I can’t think of too many examples but I enjoyed books like Ocean at the end of the lane, Coraline, Howl’s moving castle, Neverwhere, and Piranesi.

    Thanks!

Have you read anything by Italo Calvino or Vonnegut? For Calvino I’d recommend either Invisible Cities or If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler. For Vonnegut maybe Breakfast of Champions or Cat’s Cradle.

Have you read Library at Mount Char? I’d also recommend that. I’ve read a few of the books you listed and while I won’t say they are one to one I’d say the ones i mention are lighter reads. Vonnegut is some social commentary but it is satirical and lighter.

    3. The Holmes of Kyoto series by Mai Mochizuki. It’s a slice of life series with bits of romance and mystery. It’s about a high school girl who gets a job at an antique shop.

The VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral After Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream series by Nana Nanato. VTuber’s stream glitches while trying to end it, unaware the audio is still streaming, gets drunk, life-changing hilarity ensues. May be confusing if you’re not into VTubers.

Not as dark as her other books, but still a little creepy/unsettling. But short and very funny!
