We are helping a local unhoused family (who we know are from Central America) through a homelessness charity, and as well as gift cards, it is suggested to buy some books and toys for the little girl. Thinking about my own daughter’s favorite books at that age, they all feature Caucasian, mostly blonde main characters 🙁 I don’t want to be heavy-handed and buy books ABOUT being a person of color, or ALL books with Latina heroines; but I can’t think of ANY that just happen to have a main character that might look like the little girl we are buying it for, which feels a bit crappy. Any ideas?
