Hello! I just finished a book that, while very good, hit on a lot of really traumatic difficult things for me and has left me an anxious mess. I’ve gone over my TBR but a ton of it is heavy/dark/long fantasy that I simply can’t deal with right now. Any recommendations for either fantasy or romance that might help me get out of this mindset and anxiety? Preferably shorter than 500 pages if possible.

Thanks so much for any suggestions anyone might give, I appreciate you taking time to help me out 🙂

    1. Honestly, the ‘MoominValley’ series by Tove Janson might be the perfect fit. Although technically a children’s book series it doesn’t feel corny or kiddy, and just is a cozy silly read filled with whimsical nostalgia and fun characters. It’s one of those series that I find myself returning to again and again through adulthood when things get heavy.

      For fantasy:

      House in the cerulean sea

      Legends and Lattes

A long way to a small angry planet

A psalm for the wild built

      The Wee Free Men

      Going Postal

      The hobbit

      For Romance:

The undertaking of Hart and Mercy

      The flatshare

      The hating game

      Georgie all along

      Twice shy

      The weather girl

      The wedding date

The Lover by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia. It’s a novela. Fantasy romance. Short and sweet. Probably under 100pgs

The innkeeper chronicles by Ilona Andrews is amazing. Creative characters and plot. Slow romance (dont truly get together til the 3rd book). It’s funny and I’ve read it 3 times in the last year. So good.

    5. The Discworld books are great, ight fantasy that has a ton of humour and wit and wisdom in them. It’s a great series with 41 books that are all interconnected but not to the point where you have to read them ALL, or have to read them in any real order whatsoever. There is always something worthwhile to read in them!
