The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. It’s a sort of retelling and reimagining of the Iliad and it has some fantasy elements. Very good and fun read.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever read before. The epitome of “it’s a vibe”, very atmospheric and intriguing story about a man that lives in a house so large it contains entire oceans.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. It’s a slightly dark fairytale for grownups. The author has a wonderful imagination and he tells stories in the language that we were all fluent in during childhood, but forgot along the way.

And for a wildcard, I know you said no science fiction, but this is a story that I think anyone can enjoy, even if you don’t usually like the genre: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I don’t think he’s the best writer I’ve ever read, but he certainly has good stories, and this is a great story. It’s not hard to understand or anything like that. It’s a story of a man who wakes up alone on a ship with no memory, and how it got there, and how he’s supposed to save earth. That’s all I’ll say, the less you know going into it, the better.
