    With October upon us, looking for some good Fall books. I’m pretty open minded. Could be spooky, could be cozy, could be fun, could be thrilling – not sure I wanna be sad though lol.

    I’m open to all recommendations, but I’ve never really read any witch stories or dark academia type books and I’m curious. Some in these two realms I’ve been considering:

    * The House Witch
    * Ace of Spades
    * The Once and Future Witches
    * Payback’s A Witch

    Doesn’t need to be from these four books, The Book Thief is also high on my list just from recommendations – I know nothing about it – is it a good Fall read? I’ve read Harry Potter when I was younger so don’t rec that please

    1. Ninth house by Leigh Bardugo is an dark academia book from the uni of the author itself. It’s on my tbr list.

    2. Repulsive-Dot553 on

      Equal Rites; Wyrd Sisters – both by Terry Pratchett, funny, cozy, very witchy

      Chocolat – by Joanne Harris, gives me fall vibes, cozy, a little witchy

      Remarkably Bright Creatures – cozy vibe, whiff of magical realism

    3. Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney a young man doing the job of a “spook” sort of a cross between low magic Witcher and medieval ghostbuster

    4. Seconding The Once and Future Witches. It’s a great historical fantasy with witchy folklore and an f/f romance that doesn’t overshadow the main plot. It’s a slow burn plotwise, but worth sticking with.

      Three Sisters Trilogy by Nora Roberts

      Kinda out of my norm but every once in awhile I like a light read and I enjoyed the series nonetheless

    6. ‘Shadow of the wind’ Carlos Louis zafron…….as the nights shorten grab this and mug of cocoa, listen to the rain on the window pane and enjoy……..

    7. The Book Thief is a really good book but I don’t think is a good fall read.
      I’m also looking at reading something with fall vibes and someone recommended Something Wicked This Way Comes. Going to start reading it tonight.
      The Saturday Night Ghost Club is also on the list.

    8. -Witch Child by Celia Reese
      -Vampire academy series by Richelle Meade
      -marked series by PC cast
      -Akata Witch series by Nnedi Okorafor
      -The Witchcraft of Salem Village by Shirley Jackson (historians account of Salem witch trials)
      -Sabriel by Garth Nix
      -Howls Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

    9. The Scholomance series by Naomi Novak, starting with A Deadly Education. Best dark academia I’ve read recently. Very dark, but also funny.

      *Holly and Oak* R. Cooper (Familiar Spirits novellas)

      5 seasonal novellas. Holly and Oak is more set around Winter Solstice but sets the framework of the magic and the town setting of these Male/Male romances. The Fall equinox/all souls/Halloween feature in several of these wholesome and cozy novellas.

    11. *A Halloween Tale* by Austin Crawley

      Haunted house story with an interesting array of cultural ghosts and weird happenings. Short but a must read for Halloween!

      Have you read The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly? It’s a dark fantasy with some parts being downright scary! One of my favourite books of all time. Definite fall/Halloween vibes! Not so much witchy…
